The cool breeze
Fills the empty vault of heaven
With the voice of the pine-tree
[Onitsura]
涼風や虚空にみちて松の声 鬼貫
Suzukaze ya kokû ni michite matsu no koe
Throughout the long history of humanity, nature has always been the climatic refuge against the heat. Native vegetation is one of the most effective ways to mitigate heat in cities. As I’ve already mentioned, there are sustainable solutions that many cities are implementing, although in our cities they are taking longer to arrive.
For example, permeable surfaces, the implementation of “depaving,” green roofs with climate-appropriate vegetation, and low water requirements.
Meanwhile, during these very hot days, I recommend, in the best Andalusian style, a simple chambao, with the wisdom of the land covering me with reeds and palm leaves.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer.
